SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW!
Dave and I took our annual backpacking trip to LOST LAKES where we had a wonderful time. Anytime we can be together is a wonderful time EVEN if it's in the tent for 18 hours at a time dodging rainstorms. We hiked up in perfect weather conditions...cloudy and cool! We got to our campsite and pitched the tent then decided to take a little siesta. Well, we should have taken care of a few essential items first like pumping water and storing firewood. After our little nap it started sprinkling then a full fledged downpour. We were outside the tent at that point digging our ditches to keep the rain out from under our tent or having a river run through it. We couldn't get to the lake to pump the water after the rain started because it was slick, cold and miserable. We had 1/2 a bottle of water which was not enough to make a dehydrated dinner SO we went without dinner. We survived the night and greeted an overcast morning. Cool and misty. We ALMOST decided to hike to another favorite lake when it started sprinkling again and moments later another downpour. Another afternoon, evening and night in the tent playing cribbage with lights out at 9 p.m. We got up on day three and decided we were not spending another 18 hours in the tent. We packed up, had a less than favorite meal of powdered scrambled eggs and bacon bits for breakfast and headed up the trail. AGAIN...cloudy and cool with a bit more mud under foot all the way out. Just as we got to our Cherokee it started raining and it did rain. We were so happy to be INSIDE the vehicle that was taking us back down the hill to our favorite hamburger joint in Meeker CLARKS. I wouldn't have traded a moment of our three days over the rainbow (or in this case under the rainbow), together for anything. I'm thinking next year we will be going somewhere in Arizona. Anyone want to come?

Just a couple of things...#1, where did you get those snazzy pj's??? And secondly, we'd love to go if I could drive to the campsite (and it was a cabin with electricity and running water)!!! I'm just not much of a camping/backpacking kind of girl. The pictures are beautiful though and you did tempt me just a bit!
Oh how I missed this annual trip! This is the first time in the last three years I haven't made it :( I don't know what I missed the most, the Rain or Clarks'!! :)
